I will give you two homemade recipes that I have personally used.
Recipe #1
2 Cups of your favorite Fabric Softener
2 Cups of Vinegar
2 Cups of Water
Mix all three of these ingredients into a bottle, shake and use. That's it! This is my favorite recipe. I for some reason cannot get away from the fabric softener. I LOVE THE SMELL :)
This picture shows the ingredients doubled.
I had a bottle of fabric softener that I decided to use and believe it or not, that one 64 oz. bottle tripled in size. I am so pleased with this recipe. It makes the clothes smell good and they feel absolutely amazing. I had a hard time with my towels. They never smelt the way I wanted them to and now they are so fresh and smell so clean. I do believe you will be happy with this one.
Recipe #2
6 cups of Vinegar
1 cup of Baking Soda
essential oil (optional)
Place the baking soda in a large bottle and slowly add the vinegar to the baking soda. Make sure to do this very, very slow. It will cause a reaction. This would be a great experiment for your children. I know my children loved doing this one. Once the vinegar and baking soda is mixed together you can add your essential oil. Shake and use. (I use 1/2 cup per medium load)
No matter how many times you shake the bottle, these two ingredients will never mix completely. Therefore you need to shake the bottle before you use it. For this reason I did not like it that much. But it did leave the clothes softer than the first recipe.
Note: Neither recipes left a vinegar smell. I was afraid to use vinegar with my clothes but after trying it, I am now a believer. Vinegar naturally softens laundry by removing the soap and residue build up. Vinegar contains small amounts of potassium and sodium which softens hard water, and dissolves mineral build up in the washing machine. It also reduces static in the dryer.
Another plus using vinegar is it keeps your washing machine smelling fresh and clean.
